This has a massive base for a short building - they were going to build a large tower but the crash of 1929 stopped that.

Not to be confused with the GE Building in Rockefeller Center, this is a stunning Art Deco Tower. The terra cotta reliefs represent radio waves. The roof is a real treat!

Twin peaked towers - a hotel and residential complex. Franklin Delano Roosevelt's private car pulled up to a railroad spur under the hotel and he was whisked up to the hotel whenever he visited. General Douglas MacArthur lived in the towers after he retired from the army.

This is a wonderful complex, with amazing art inside and outside the lobbies.

One of the more interesting stories is that Diego Rivera painted a mural in the main lobby... and had put in the head of Lenin. Not a good thing to have in a complex named after Rockefeller.

Diego Rivera refused to remove the picture. He was paid in full, the mural was destroyed, and replaced with a mediocre one.

Good news though - Rivera repainted the mural at Bellas Artes in Mexico City. When you're in Mexico City, be sure to visit it. It's a huge mural, and a real treat to see.

Empire State Building 350 Fifth Avenue

Most people go to the observatory, but I think the best part of the Empire State Building is the stunning mural in the lobby! Be sure to view the different medallions representing the crafts - elevators, masonry, electrical, etc.

  Chrysler Building 405 Lexington Avenue
New York NY

My favorite New York Landmark - it's simply magnificent. Be sure to go into the lobby - the elevator doors are made with beautiful hardwood inlay... and the ceiling is a wonderful mural of the building. Walter Chrysler had the spire secretly constructed in the tower, and then raised up. It made it the tallest building in the world until the Empire State Building was finished.
