Central Berkeley
The Arts & Theaters
Downtown Berkeley has gone through a resurgence in the last decade thanks to the leadership of Shirley Dean and the City Council, and has become a wonderful Performing Arts District. Addison Street and Shattuck Avenue has become the hub of the Performing Arts District.
Downtown Berkeley has over a dozen movie theaters to choose from. I highly recommend buying a Landmark Theater Discount Card. It¹s good for up to two people at a time, is good for six months, and costs $28 for 5 admissions. It can be used at all the Landmark Theaters most times, except after 6 PM on Friday & Saturday nights.
Pegasus Books opened a branch across the street from Barnes & Noble, the old Hinks Department Store was converted into pleasant Shattuck Cinemas (with Egyptian motif)... and expanded yet again, Berkeley Rep opened the new Roda Theater (where we saw the Flying Kamarazov Brothers.. who neither fly nor are brothers).. and Eddie Bauer opened too.
Mac lovers should visit Albert & Serena Ho at MAC or Computerware on University Avenue. If you're not yet using a mac, you can buy a windows computer at the Gateway store.. next to Eddie Bauer.
New Yorkers - Arinell Pizza at makes a great New York style pizza. It's one of Berkeley's terrific pizza places - along with Cheese Board and LoCoccos.
Cambodiana Restaurant makes delicious lamb chops - really!! |
